House Cleaning Tips and the Dyson Ball Vacuum Review
As a Home Cleaning Goddess, when it comes to vaccuming, I want a vaccum that works well, is tough, and will last me a long time. If it happens to look great and be cutting edge design, there even better. That is why for me, when it comes to buying a vacuum, one of my major House Cleaning Tips is to buy a Dyson.
Dyson is to vaccumming what Apple is to MP3 players. Sure there are many great vacuums in the market, but do they look as good, and work as well as a Dyson? Dyson are at the cutting edge of design and function when it comes to vaccums. Their main features are
Dyson vacuums never lose suction. You will often find that other vacuums lose suction over time, so the more you use them, the less effective they are at cleaning your home.
Patented Cyclone technology picks up more dust and pet hair, room after room. Other systems clog, leaving dirt and pet-related debris on floors.
Air expelled from a Dyson is 99.99 percent cleaner than when it entered the vacuum. Dyson vacuums capture up to 99.99 percent of all dirt and dust particles via cyclonic separation. A pleated HEPA filter captures allergens and particles as small as 0.01 micron.
Dyson vacuums are easy to use and maneuver. No need to get dusty emptying the bin–just push the button and you’re done. Lifetime HEPA and washable filters mean you never have to buy bags.
So we look at the latest Dyson featuring its patented Ball Technology:
Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum CleanerThis is the one that comes with the famous Dyson Ball technology. Basically this upright vacuum cleaner sits on top of a ball for easy twisting and turning around furniture and obstacles. No more missed angles or tiresome back-and-forth vacuuming. The design is superb, with the engine inside the ball. Not only does this mean it looks very neat and small, but also means that the vacuum has a low centre of gravity making it much more easy to manoeuvre.
At around 16 pounds this is very light for the power you are going to get. Remember, size is not everything, as the suction on this machine is fantastic, and probably much better than larger heavier vacuums. It is easy to carry upstairs, and fits into small closets comfortably, for ease of storage. I love that it can move along flush with a wall, so I rarely need to use the attachments (except to get behind stuff). And it’s relatively small. I expected it to be much larger, but it’s small and so very, very light. You’ll really notice the difference between it’s 16lb and the normal 25-30lb for other 11 amp vacs. And it’s relatively quiet
Using its Root Cyclone technology to separate dirt from the air by centrifugal force, which ensures efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction, the cleaning power is superb. With its fingertip controls, and a constant suction power of 220 air watt you will be amazed, and perhaps shocked, at the amount of dirt it will pick up from your carpet, if you are used to a normal vacuum.
You fill find that this is effective for use on all floor types, the unit’s motorized brushbar can be turned on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or turned off to protect delicate rugs and floors. It also supplies a quick-draw Telescope Reach wand, which expands to offers 16 feet of reach for stairs, drapes, upholstery, and more.
For cleaner expelled air, the unit comes with a washable lifetime HEPA filter that traps microscopic allergens such as pollen and bacteria. In fact, the air expelled from a Dyson has up to 150 times less bacteria and mold than the air you breathe, and all Dyson uprights are certified asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The unit’s hygienic 1/3-gallon bin quickly empties without ever having to touch the dust–just press the button and dust empties from the bottom; the clear polycarbonate bin also allows for easily viewing the cleaning progress and gauging when it needs to be emptied.Yes, this is probably more expensive than a lot of vacuums you can buy, but sometimes going cheap is a false economy. I have a habit of having vacuums dying on me every year or so, and I had avoided buying a Dyson because of the price. But when I did, I never looked back, and with a 5 year parts guarantee you cannot go wrong. It far out sucks other vacuums, looks fantastic, gets into places others cannot reach – and is worth every dollar.

House Cleaning Tips for The Bathroom
When cleaning the bath it is very important to follow the manufacturers instructions, and understand what type of bath you have. Depending on what the bath is made on, you will have to apply slightly different techniques to get that sparkling, inviting clean bath.

Here are my essential House Cleaning Tips for cleaning different types of baths.
Enamel Baths
Use a mild cleaner for this, a bathroom cleaner that is not to abrasive, or alternative make up a cleaning mixture of washing up liquid and water. You need to use a soft cloth, but where the bath is particularly dirtier you can use a cream cleaner. Again, do not over use cream cleaners as it can result in damaging the enamel. If you clean regularly, you will not need to use a more harsh cleaner, and a mild cleaner or washing up liquid will suffice.
If you are confronted by rust stains, then a great technique is to use a small combination of lemon and salt. Alternatively, you can make one of my recommended cleaning recipes of bicarbonate of soda and washing up liquid, made into a paste. Spread on the paste, and then leave for around an hour. Then when you come back, if you wipe off with a cloth it should be gone. If not, then just repeat the process a couple of times.
If you live in a hard water area, where you are victim to tough lime scale, then you should get yourself a magic sponge. Alternatively, a good technique is to get the cork of a wine bottle, preferably the clean end! and put a little cream cleaner, or my famous paste of bicarbonate of soda and washing up liquid on the end, and rub the affected area. There are also some great lime scale cleaners, but whilst effective, they are not something you would want to use regularly, as they can be highly chemical.

Acrylic and Fibreglass Baths
A straightforward mild cleaner should be sufficient for this, if the bath is not to dirty. You can make a mild cleaner with that old stalwart, washing up liquid, as it does a grand job. Again, you need to be using a soft cloth or paper towels, and you want to dry down with paper towels afterwards to prevent any water spots occurring.
If you have neglected your bath somewhat, and it is a bit more dirty than usual, here is a great house cleaning tip. Fill the bath with warm water and add a few scoops of a biological washing powder and leave overnight. When you come back, and empty the bath you will see a great difference, and then clean as above.
If you are confronted with particularly stubborn marks, then my classic paste of baking soda and water will do the trick. Don’t rub too hard though. If limescale, our old friend, rears his ugly head, then it is time to get out the white vinegar. Mix vinegar (white) and water in equal parts. Concentrate on the limescale areas only. The vinegar should eat through the limescale and slowly dissolve it. Then wipe down with a soft cloth or paper towel and clean normally, as above.
And there you go, some simple House Cleaning Tips to end up with a beautifully, sparkling bath, that you will want to fill up with your finest bubble bath and indulge yourself in.

House Cleaning Tips – Cheap Cleaning Products
Here are some really fantastic, honest and common-sense House Cleaning Tips for those looking for alternatives to commercially produced cleaning products. There are a lot of old wives tales, and advice, that are sometimes more trouble than they are worth. However, there are a few alternatives that you might want to consider when cleaning your house
I have used vinegar for cleaning (clear vinegar) occaisonally, which is fantastic with windows, but too much and the place ends up smelling like a fish and chip shop. So use sparingly. One great cleaning tip is to make up a paste of bicarbonate of soda and mile washing up liquid. This is great for stubborn dirt or burnt on spills, and I have used regularly on my glass oven doors. -
House Cleaning Tips for Busy People
Here are some essential House Cleaning Tips for busy people, or any of us, that put off house cleaning, and let it build up. The secret to maintaining a clean and tidy house, and to not be faced with a mammoth cleaning task is to clean as you go. A little bit every day will mean that your house keeping cleaning does not become a chore.
So here are my Top House Cleaning Tips for our busy lifestyles.
Target the Main Cleaning Tasks
There will always be essential tasks, such as cleaning the bathroom or kitchen or attending to the vacuuming. There are also tasks that would be nice to have done, such as emptying and tidying drawers etc. Focus on the essential tasks first
Establish How Much Time You can dedicate
You will be surprised how much can be done in a short space of time. A little here and there, a stolen spare moment to wipe the kitchen surfaces, or run round with the vacuum. The odd twenty minutes here and there soon build up. If you get yourself a Home Cleaning Schedule and knock of the tasks when you can. Do not feel bad if you cannot stick to the schedule religiously. There will always be things or events that may get in the way. Just attend to what housekeeping cleaning you can, and try to make it a habit
Share the Burden
If you have a family, then remember you are not alone. Teaching the kids to tidy as they go, put their clothes away and make their beds etc, will not only be good for you, but will teach the kids a valuable life lesson they can take with them. Do not forget, the older the kid, the bigger the task you can set them. A little bribery goes a long way to.
Start What You Finish
Do not get distracted once you start a home cleaning task. Finish what you have started before you move on to the next job.
Double Up and Multitask
Ever been waiting for other people or on the phone chatting aimlessly away. Why not wipe down the kitchen surfaces while you chatting on the phone. Pick up bits of laundry as you walk through the house.
Share with The Family
If you can set a side a couple of hours a week, then why not get the family involved. Make a list of the tasks that need to be done, then hand them out. Everyone needs to join in during that fixed period of time. You will soon end up with clean home in no time.
Deal with Spills Straightway
If someone spills something, deal with it immediately. Not only does this help prevent staining, but by acting instantly the job is done without thinking.
Keep Dirt Out
You cannot help dirt being brought into the house, especially during winter or when it is raining. But you can attempt to minimise the dirt that is brought in, and therefore the amount of cleaning you need to do. Door mats, and boot scrapers are great for this. Remove dirty shoes and coats as soon as possible, and place them in a utility room, or space where wet clothes can be stored.
If you apply these simple tips, you will minimise the need for that Spring Clean or big annual clean. By doing a little each day, having a home cleaning schedule and maintaining your cleaning as you go, you will find that home cleaning will not get the better of you.

Housekeeping Cleaning – Kitchen Surfaces
The kitchen worktop is often what makes our kitchen look fabulous. But of course it has a practical purpose, and regular cleaning is essential. So here are my house cleaning tips for a number of different kitchen tops.
General Kitchen Surfaces
I tend to clean as I go, wiping down with a mild cleaner (this could be just a mild washing up liquid and water in a spray) or anti-bacterial spray. After all, this is where most of the food preparation takes place.
As a minimum, you should clean your surfaces everyday.
Kitchen Tiles
When it comes to tiles, these will need wiping down, again either with mild cleaner as above or antibacterial spray. In addition, where there is grout, you may want to make up a cleaning solution consisting of bleach and water (one part bleach to four part water). If you have an old toothbrush, this can be great for getting into the narrow grout.
Glazed Tiles
If you have special tiles – such as glazed tiles, then you want to avoid using a cleaner that is too harsh or abrasive
Laminate Surfaces
Laminate can be cleaned and wiped as normal, but for those particular difficult stains, I find a cream cleaner works well. Alternatively you can make up a paste of bicarbonate of soda and washing up liquid.
Wood surfaces
Solid wood surfaces will need oiling on a regular basis. This is essential to prevent to the wood absorbing too much water. Make sure you tackle any spills from food that stains, such as curry or tomato sauce immediately. Again a mild cleaner, and antibacterial spray is fine for wood surfaces. You need to rub firmly, and you will have your wood surfaces looking vibrant and clean.
Stainless steel surfaces.
Stainless steel surfaces show fingermarks up very clearly. A decent microfibre cloth is great at getting rid of these. If you add a tiny drop of baby oil, those fingermarks will disappear in no time. With metal surfaces do not use any wire wool, or abrasive materials as you will only scratch and damage the surface.
Granite surfaces
Most people consider the granite surface as the most hard-wearing. They tend to avoid staining, and can look fantastic. You will still need to clean on a regular basis as described above, and mild cleaner is all you need. Again, as with metal you need to avoid using materials that are abrasive as you do not want to scratch the surface.
The kitchen can be the heart of the house, and a clean kitchen is a healthy kitchen, and can be a place to be enjoyed. Tidy and wipe down the surfaces as you go and you will have a place where you will enjoy cooking and entertaining.

Housekeeping Cleaning – Your basic Home Cleaning toolkit
When Housekeeping Cleaning and Home Cleaning it is always best to have a handy cleaning toolkit ready at hand. Ideally this can be kept in a simple carry bag or case, so when those little jobs happen, you can just grab the toolkit and clean.
Your basic Home Cleaning Tool Kit should include the following:
- A general all purpose cleaner, that is suitable for most surfaces. Alternative you can make up your own all purpose household cleaner by preparing a solution of 2 tablespoons of gentle washing up liquid and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle.
- A mild and gentle abrasive cleaner – such as Cif or you can make up a solution by combining baking soda and washing up liquid into a paste like substance.

Home Cleaning – The Big Spring Clean
When it comes to useful House Cleaning Tips I strongly advocate the notion that a little at a time – and you will always be on top of your housekeeping cleaning. However, there are those occasions when a deep clean is required. If you move into a new house, where the previous owners have not been as diligent as you, or helping you off spring move into rented accommodation. Whatever the reason, faced with a dirty house that has built up its mess over time can be a daunting prospect. So where should you start? Here is my advice on how to manage that Deep Clean.1 – I like to start at the top of the house and work my way down. Being systematic is the key to success and working room to room.
2 – The top down approach should apply to each room. Start at the ceilings and make your way down.
3 – I like to tackle the cleaning of the bedrooms, studies and reception rooms first
4 – Don’t forget the ceilings, curtains and floors. Make sure you move all the furniture so you can get behind and underneath where the dirt has built up.
5 – Where water is involved in the cleaning process, start with this first, washing any sides, paintwork, windoes, laundering curtains, and shampooing carpets
6 – Then tackle the dry stuff. Dusting, polishing and waxing where appropriate
7 – Finally vacuum. This should pick up all the dirt and dust you have disturbed doing all the other cleaning above.
8 – I like to leave the bathrooms, kitchens and any utility rooms to the end. Make sure that any buckets and clothes are cleaned and replenished for these rooms.
9- Finally tackle the loft, porch and hallway etc.
Make yourself a nice up of tea, and enjoy the clean environment you have created.
